Every Holy Week’s dreaded problem has a name: wax stains on your robe.
They seem to come out, but often leave an invisible greasy ring that darkens the fabric over time.
Here is an easy, step-by-step method to remove solid wax and then eliminate the remaining grease stain, leaving the fabric spotless with Agerul Concentrated Degreaser.
Why wax leaves a stain even when it seems to disappear
Wax presents two problems:
- Solid wax (the part you can see stuck to the fabric).
- Residual grease (the invisible part that soaks into the fibres).
So even after removing the wax, a ring can remain that becomes more noticeable over time, especially on light fabrics.
Before you start: IMPORTANT precautions to protect your robe
IMPORTANT
- Do not use steam.
- Do not iron directly on the fabric.
- If the robe is synthetic or satin, use a low temperature.
- After washing, do not dry or iron it until you have checked that the stain has disappeared completely.
What you will need
- Kitchen roll or absorbent paper
- An iron (without steam)
- Agerul Concentrated Degreaser
- A washing machine and your usual detergent (a delicate cycle if the garment requires it)
Step 1: Remove solid wax from the fabric without damaging the fibres
This step lifts the wax out of the garment without rubbing.
- Place kitchen roll or absorbent paper over the affected area.
- Set the iron to a medium heat, without steam.
- Press the iron onto the paper, not onto the fabric.
- The heat melts the wax so it sticks to the paper.
- Change the paper if needed and repeat until no more wax comes out.
Tip: for a delicate robe (satin or synthetic), a low temperature and patience are best.
Step 2: Remove the residual grease stain (the invisible ring)
Even when you can no longer see the wax, grease may remain and later darken the fabric. Here is the trick:
- Apply a small amount of Agerul Concentrated Degreaser directly to the affected area.
- Leave to work for 5–10 minutes without allowing the product to dry on the fabric.
- Wash the robe in the washing machine according to its care label (use a delicate cycle if needed).
Very important: do not dry or iron it until you have checked that the stain has disappeared completely.
If the stain does not come out first time
- Repeat the degreaser step with a small amount, then wash again.
- Avoid tumble drying or ironing until the stain is completely gone: heat can set the remaining grease.
Common mistakes when removing wax stains (and how to avoid them)
- Using steam: it can spread and set the stain.
- Ironing directly on the fabric: this risks shiny patches, marks or scorching.
- Rubbing hard: it damages the fibres and makes the ring worse.
- Drying or ironing to see if the stain goes away: any remaining residue will be set.
